Opening Meet

November 18th, 2023

Experience the pageantry and tradition of the sport of Fox Hunting.  For over 200 years, people have been following hounds in pursuit of game. The greatest Tradition of Fox Hunting is "The Opening Meet" with a "Blessing of the Hounds" to wish them well in their upcoming season. At Green Creek Hounds, our traditions also include a champagne toast to the hounds at the blessing, a "Hunt Breakfast" after the hounds come home, and our famous "Tally-Ho" wagons, where non-riders can follow the hunt without a four-legged partner

The Tally-Ho Wagons

You can experience the Hunt up close and personally by buying a ticket to a "Tally-Ho" Wagon that will allow you to ride on a wagon over the rivers and through the woods and fields, watching the riders and hearing the "speaking" of hounds as they search for a coyote to chase. (No coyotes or foxes are harmed during the course of a fox hunt).

Each wagon will have food and drink, hosted by one or more members of the hunt. Riders and non-riders alike join together for a fun, family-oriented event and a long standing tradition in the Foothills. Riders will occasionally stop by the wagons to have a snack. The hounds may too as well, since wagons carry tasty treats!

The Opening Hunt Festivities take place along John Watson Road along the White Oak and Green Creeks. Ticketed attendees will be giving parking information
